Calendar Time!!

I'll be handing out a blank calendar to each of you, so you can keep track of your due dates!!! Glue it into your SB/J or put it in your binder or whatever!! Somewhere that you will be able to find it and keep up with your assignments!!

Extra credit: for now OR next semester!!

There are 3 sets of 7 - pick one from each set and for each of your 3 choices, write at least 2 intelligent paragraphs(min. 5 sentence in each paragraph) that cover these 4 requirements:
1. a short synopsis(look it up if you don't know what this word means!) of the tutorial,
2. explain why you picked this tutorial
3. how this knowledge will effect you as a photographer - a specific change this tutorial will make in your photography,
4. why someone else should read it

EVIDENCE ASSIGNMENT Nov 18-Dec 16.

What is an 
evidence photograph? 
When is it ART?
memory 
truth 
documentation 
testimony 
verification 
confirmation 
proof

The basic assignment: Use photography to show evidence of people. Make images with meaning about the cause of the images. Work within a theme. Use any theme based on evidence.
Examples:  
Evidence that people don't (or do) care.
Tracks.
Shadows without objects.
 
Someone or something missing – what and why
Old houses, fences, buildings – why, what happens when no one cares
Lonely kids, playgrounds

Upload the Following – 3- 4 progress posts with photos per week - you must keep me updated on your progress:
  1. Description of at least 2 ideas for the assignment including drawings. Nov. 25
  2. A series 7 or more ‘postcards’ posted on blog that fulfill your idea and the assignment. Dec 9
  3. 7 or more 5 x 7 prints(print on my printer) on one piece of mat board or foam core board with a title and description due Dec 16
  4. EXTRA CREDIT: Create an 11X14 photo (to be printed at SAMS by me) as an experiment using your photos and other stuff(we’ll talk about this) using photoshop layers.
Assignment Instructions:
1.           1.  This week, make a list of ideas and themes for yourself and post them. Then in another post, select  two that you like and explain and expand both! (Great ideas for another day!).Due on Nov 25.

2.   This week post your photos as you take them, with an explanation of how they work with your theme – 3-4 posts with all seven posted and explained . Due on Dec.9

3.   Print out 7 or more of the photos from your assignment, glue or use double stick tape, and fasten to a sheet of foam core(or something else if you have an idea) decorate the board in a way that enhances the evidence theme you have chosen -use some sort of lettering ie. stick on letters, to give your board a title and short description.Post photos of your progress!! Due on Dec 16.

4.   We’ll talk about this one!! Due when we get back in January, date to be determined.

The Artistic Quality of the Assignment:
  1. Play around and experiment.
  2. Create impact.
  3. Isolate (with connections).
  4. Use a point of view.  Have an attitude.
  5. Contrast content and ideas within the composition for emphasis.
  6. Hit the viewer in the gut. Produce emotion.
  7. Elicit response. Be unpredictable.
The Design Quality of the Assignment:
  1. Use the viewfinder to experiment with framing.  Move up, down, closer, and around.
  2. Exploit or eliminate background.
  3. Develop a theme with variation. Use repetition with change.
  4. Study the action of the lines and edges.
    a. diagonal vs rectilinear 
    b. curved vs straight 
    c. jagged vs smooth
  5. Move camera to get tonal interchange. Important shapes have strong contrast with background tone.
  6. Study the edges of the viewfinder. Consider the spacing created by lines as they exit the frame.

FOUR(4) POSTS/PHOTOS OF YOUR PROJECT PROGRESS ARE DUE THIS WEEK!!!

    PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY!! 
    The following blog work will be 100% of your Daily Participation grade and all blog work must be posted by end of your class on Friday (if your class doesn't meet on Friday for some reason, you still have to have your updating finished by 11AM on Friday).
    Expectations for Participation Grade:
    1. EVERY DAY, post a description of your progress OR the assignment due that day - on your personal blog - the phone app is easiest and fastest, or you can email the photo to yourself or you can use your laptop to take photos.  ***TAG or LABEL your posts from the my label list and/or your own list***
    2. Weekly comments on at least 2 of your classmates’ personal blogs. Add a quick post telling me which blogs you posted on so I can find them quickly.
    3. Weekly postcard assignments must be uploaded to blog BEFORE class each Monday, or they are late.
    4. At least 1 weekly addition of an artist webpage – in your area of study - in your Link List.
    5. ** LABEL your posts from the my label list and/or your own list*** My List – high school art, art assignments, sculpture, photography, etc – your section.
